Tamil language is one of the oldest languages in the world with an exquisite flavor and has positioned itself as a classical language in the world. Tamil comprises three major classifications namely literature, music, and theatrical works. Ancient Tamil music has evolved by assimilating many nuances today and has become the basis for classical dance and theater that they cannot exist without music.

The growth of Ancient Tamil music had been disrupted during the past centuries, which ruined the traditional form while enriching the music in a different form with much more complexity called Carnatic Music.  World Tamil Music University (WTMU) has a mission to retrieve and restore the prosperity of the treasure trove that is Tamil music and to pass on the highest standard of Tamil music in all forms to the next generation.

WTMU is making efforts to bring together the most eminent Tamil scholars, enthusiasts, musicians, music scholars, artists and more from around the world. WTMU’s purpose is to offer Tamil music-related certificate courses, diploma courses, and degree programs through distance education using state-of-the-art technologies.
