As the great Tamil poet Mahakavi Bharathiyar said over a century ago, “Thaemadhura Thamizhosai Ulagamellam Paravum Vagai Seithal Vendum”. It means that Tamil music, which is like the sweetest honey, should be made to spread around the world. Tamil, a classical language, is the most ancient language in the world and is being taught in universities around the world with Tamil literature being researched and the findings being published. Tamil is celebrated as a trinity language for its rich literature, music, and theatrical works. While there are many university organizations like the Harvard Tamil Chair, Tamilisai (Tamil Music), in its traditional form, is not being taught at an international level. We at WTMU believe that it is our duty to spread the richness of Tamilisai’s history, prosperity, growth, and more to the next generation. Tamils should learn about the important aspects of Tamilisai to preserve its tradition and culture. To make this a reality, WTMU (World Tamil Music University) was founded in September 2021 in the United States of America in the state of Virginia.

WTMU offers higher educational opportunities in Tamil music to pursue degrees up to a Doctoral level with research opportunities. This education in Tamil music creates qualified teachers, performers, and more. WTMU aims to provide certificate courses and degree programs via online education to prospective students all over the world. The respective curricula, syllabi, and lessons are uploaded on our website. There will be video lectures that will be posted by our professors, and we will instructors that will work at different time zones to assist students all over the world. Since the courses are done online, students can learn the course content at their own pace. The highly educated, scholarly, and erudite faculty of WTMU will teach in-depth lessons in Tamilisai through audio-visual formats. Keeping in mind the view and requirement, the teaching patterns, our systems & programs have been designed by our well-experienced teaching faculty. The motto of WTMU is to strive and function in a uniformed, socially equal, and integrity-poised way to uplift and uphold our traditional Tamil music as an independent and unaltered Tamil art form in the eyes of the World Tamil Community and in the eyes of other nations.
